As a merchant marine, Husky entertained a troops inside his ship in World War 2. When the war, Eskimo dog became a DJ in Missouri and Bakersfield, California, where he began using the moniker Terry Preston sequentially to hide his rural roots. As a honky tonk singer, Husky signed by owning Capital Records in 1953 under the counsel of Cliffie Stone, also a manager for Tennessee Ernie Ford. Using Capital Records, he reverted to his given title. Two or three singles failing prior to "A Dear John Letter" sustaining Jean Shepard became a #1 hit. A duo was unable to watch it higher.
